Step #6: Avoid Neuro Toxins

Everyone knows (or should know) that things like lead, mercury, aluminum, arsenic,  automobile exhaust, solvents, molds, pesticides and smoking, are not good for our bodies. But do they realize that these can all cause neurological or brain damage as well? And that extended exposure to these often lead to memory problems and dementia?

Moreover, there are a host of other chemicals and compounds in our environment, water and food that many have not even heard of, that may likewise cause serious damage to our brain. (This is especially true if we are older or our brain health has already been compromised by other ailments or issues.)

These include glyphosate (from the weed killer Roundup ®), electromagnetic waves (EMS - that emit from cells phones, wi-fi , and some other electronics), MSG, nitrates, fluorosilicic acid, potentially harmful sugars and sugar substitutes, hydrogenated oils, and other preservatives and chemicals added to our food and drinks, that can be neuro toxic as well; not to mention more than 100 medications and anesthesia’s that have been shown to adversely affect the mind, mood and memory.

In this section for Step 6 we will identify and review some of the best validated neuro toxins, or dementogens as Dr. Bredesen calls them, with some suggestions for what you can do to avoid these, or remove them from your body if you have been exposed.

There are a lot of conflicting opinions in this field but one thing all researchers are agreed on is the sooner individuals begin learning and taking steps to improve their brain health the easier and less expensive it will be.
