Why Traditional Approaches Have Failed

Traditional Medicines “Scientific” approach to Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) has not been very effective because it was based on faulty, and perhaps even some fraudulent science, and less than the best assumptions. You may want to watch this interview by Megan Kelly, and two of the best Alzheimer’s experts in the world (Dr. Schrag from Vanderbuilt U., and Dr. Bredesen) for perspective on why traditional medicine does not have an effective approach to Alzheimer’s.

This is a long 1 hr 38 min interview. After a bit of old news and the intro you may want to skip forward 20 min to the summary of Dr. Schrag’s interview, then after him, forward to Dr. Bredesen at 1:09 (one hour 9 minutes) into the interview.  (This too comes with various advertisements, click [Skip] to pass over these)

Typically in modern medicine, pharmaceutical companies try to develop a pill for every ill, or ailment. And they have been extraordinarily effective in doing so! However, with Alzheimer’s there are just too many variables or possible contributors.

Dr. Bredesen and others have now found more than 39 different factors that can influence brain health, and therefore he notes on his website, “It’s not surprising that there have been over 400 failed clinical trials using a monotherapeutic (single drug) approach. While the single-pill approach may not be a viable option, we can address the underlying problems and patch 36 factors or holes as we referred to them in our earlier analogy [of a leaky roof].”

There are a lot of conflicting opinions in this field but one thing all researchers are agreed on is the sooner individuals begin learning and taking steps to improve their brain health the easier and less expensive it will be.
