What you can do: To stay mentally and socially active learning new things.
In step # 3 we reviewed the fact that the brain is a use it or lose it organ, and we reviewed more than 20 ideas for various ways in which we can keep our brain active learning new things. Now we would suggest you do the following:
- Decide on how you intend to read more, write more, recite or share more information with others, and ways in which you will strive to maintain your arithmetic or math skills.
- Study the section on Memory Improvement and develop a plan using the strategies taught there to enable you to remember more of what you read, or hear.
- Create a note book or computer document/file to keep track of hard to remember names and words, and the cues, hints and strategies you have developed to remember these.
- Learn ways to better use your computer and cell phone to learn new things and communicate with others, using at least text messages, and email, and the internet.
- Find at least 2 or 3 brain games that you can play on a regular basis, or sign-up for one of the top 4 Brain Training Programs and play those at least 3 X per week.
- Identify an area of cognitive weakness, such as reading or writing, remembering names, or numbers, or memorizing, planning or communicating with others and develop and execute a plan to improve in that area.
- Increase your social interaction with friends and family members. Make new friends if needed and share information with them on a regular basis, including information about this website.
