The ARECORD Formula for Remembering Anything

Every book or strategy that uses mnemonics, with have their own special formula(s), represented by an acronym.  One simple one that’s very popular is AIR which stands for Attention.  To remember things well you are gonna have to pay, and what do you pay?  Attention! The I is for Imagine.  Most people tend to remember things better if they can Imagine or picture in their mind, what it is that they are trying to remember.  And R is for Repetition.  Repetition is considered the “mother of memory.” The more we repeat  or recall what we are trying to remember, the more likely that information will be indelibly stored or embedded into our brain.

While the AIR acronym, is easy to remember, and taking those steps can be very helpful, there is a better acronym that we prefer, as it adds 4 additional steps that can be very helpful in creating indelible memories. It’s called the ARECORD formula. Here is what those letters stand for.

A – is for attention.

R – is for Relate or associate this new info with something else that is easier for you to remember.

E – is for Envision. If we can envision, create a mental image of or visualize clearly what we wish to remember, we are more likely to remember it.

C – is for concrete. We remember concrete objects better than abstract concepts.

O – is for organize. If we can find some way to organize this information in our brain we will have an easier time finding or recalling that info.

R – is for Repetition or Rehearse as in the AIR formula.

D – is for Deliver.  If we can deliver or teach that new information to others we will be more likely to retain it ourselves.

This can be used not only to store information so it can be more easily retrieved, but also to help you troubleshoot your memory, to better identify steps that you are not taking but could to better improve your memory.

If you feel like your organic memory is declining due to age, diet or other causes, we would strongly encourage you to  explore the possible contributing factors. It will be much easier to improve your memory if you have a good idea as to what is causing this decline. And to facilitate this, and better identify what on this website might be most relevant to your needs we would encourage you to take this quick, easy and inexpensive personal assessment.
